Shaykh Ya’qubi says we should not learn from these people.
I agree, unless one already has a sound footing in the Islamic Sciences.
What would you consider to be a sound footing in the islamic sciences?
Mastery of the basic texts of ‘Aqida and ones Fiqh if not more.
There are quite a few people i know who pursued their Phd’s after studying under qualified scholars.
would u consider chittick one of them?
Professor Chittick is good, except for his perenialist views…
Also, Professor Chittick mainly has a grasp of Islamic Philosophy. From my correspondence with him he is not as “solid” when it comes to Islamic ‘Aqida or Law, although he does have a basic idea of their formation and history including some theologic issues that were points of difference at the time amongst the various theological schools…
