  1. Shaykh Ya’qubi says we should not learn from these people.

  2. Salamu ‘Alaykum

I agree, unless one already has a sound footing in the Islamic Sciences.

    Wasalam

  3. What would you consider to be a sound footing in the islamic sciences?

  4. Salamu ‘Alaykum

Mastery of the basic texts of ‘Aqida and ones Fiqh if not more.

There are quite a few people i know who pursued their Phd’s after studying under qualified scholars.

    Wasalam

  5. would u consider chittick one of them?

  6. Salamu ‘Alaykum

Professor Chittick is good, except for his perenialist views…

Also, Professor Chittick mainly has a grasp of Islamic Philosophy. From my correspondence with him he is not as “solid” when it comes to Islamic ‘Aqida or Law, although he does have a basic idea of their formation and history including some theologic issues that were points of difference at the time amongst the various theological schools…

    Wasalam
