Islamic Philosophy: An Introduction
by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas [pdf]

Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas is one of the more brilliant Muslim thinkers of our times.

A must-read. I just recently recieved his work “Islam and Secularism” and I’ve ordered through the Inter-Library Loan system “Prolegomena to the Metaphysics of Islam.” He also has some important works relating to Malay Islam and Sufism, such as his work on the 16th centuryMalay manuscript of Imam Nasafi’s `aqida and Hamza Fansuri.

More on him to come in the near future…

unfortunately, Prof Dr SMN Al-Attas who founded and started ISTAC International Institute of Islamic Thought & Civlisation has been prevented from continuing at ISTAC and removed.

it is all due to jealousies and envy of the person by a non-schoalr President of the Internation Islamic University and former scholar-rector..

they even changed the symbol of ISTAC which contain the words Allah & Muhammad – such banality and profanity.

SubhanAllah, That shaykh is really a great scholar. My Shaykh, Sh. prof. Abdul Hadi Palazzi has much respect for his knowledge on metaphysics and also my American friend who lectures in University of Putra, Malaysia had the privilege to study under him for sometime before he was removed from his seat which none is worthy of occupying now.

he has also promised to get me a copy of the prolegomena which he(my friend) claims that is one of the best English books he has read to explain in details and comprehensively the concept of wahdat al wujud.

i think you explained everything well in your comment. My friend also mentioned that he was removed because of his opposition to the salafi/wahhabi thing since the govt of malaysia is now getting close to the govt. KSA.

  3. Prof Al-Attas writes in the most complicated manner possible… I’ve tried reading a few of his works but they are simply not written for my level of knowledge.
